Five years ago, I first met the Cash family at their home in Fort Portal, Uganda. One of the first things I noticed about them was how close they are as a family unit. They are one another's best friends. Theirs is a love born of years of teamwork, as they face daily challenges in ways that our lives in America are convenient and easy. (Have YOU ever had to drive to another country just to purchase toilet paper?)
The Cash family showed us hospitality, welcome, and authentic kindness during a summer spent in the mountains of northern Uganda on a small business development project and I have felt a debt of gratitude toward them ever since. This summer, they stayed with us while passing through on their 4-month furlough. They spent a few days playing on our perfect Malibu beaches, touring Pepperdine (maybe they'll send Kinley here in a couple years!), and enjoying some down time together. Early in the morning at sunrise, we all drove down to Zuma Beach to get our feet in the sand and snap a few family photos, followed by some portraits of Kinley, the resident high school senior. It was such a joy to get to do what I love with this incredible family!
