These Colorado Springs family photos came together so beautifully in Garden of the Gods, thanks to stunning blue skies, vibrant orange rocks, and some well-coordinated outfits!
Between the grandparents, grandkids, grown-up siblings, and cousin combos, these extended family photos are one of those special once-a-decade opportunities. And I'm so glad the Evans family invited me along for the task! I know they will treasure these moments, and these memories, for years to come. They say home is where the heart is, and in this case, I'd say they were right. I happen to be related to the subjects of this Wednesday-morning-at-home shoot (Mama Rachel is my big sister!), so they were willing to let me show up during breakfast time and just capture what I saw. And boy, I saw a lot.... I saw smiles and laughter and see-food and morning light and Dr. Seuss and chickens and lilacs and Midnight the cat and Macarius' bicycle and a whole lotta love passed from heart to heart and hand to hand. I left my family that morning with a full memory card and an even fuller heart.
I think what I love most about this shoot are the little bursts of reality sprinkled throughout—like that smear of God knows what on Macarius' chin from breakfast (my guess is egg yolk), or Juliana's little green undies peaking out above her skirt, or Lucius rocking the diaper, or Rachel's just-showered hair. I'm not a parent myself, but if I were, these are the details I would want frozen in time. These are the things I would store up in my heart. So please scroll down to enjoy a real morning at the Barnard home, in all it's raw perfection. A much needed hiatus to my folks' home in Black Forest, Colorado, comprised of lots of reading and delicious food, punctuated by tea parties with my niece and nephew. Aunt life > everything else.
