Malibu Commercial Photography | Pepperdine University Stock Photos

Pepperdine University is a world-class institution nestled on the coast of Southern California. Students in Pepperdine's undergraduate and graduate programs may have sweeping ocean views, but it doesn't stop them from studying for the many rigors of their academic courses.

This photo shoot took place on campus at Pepperdine's Malibu campus and at various Malibu landmarks.

Great business schools need great stock photography (for print and digital promo) and Pepperdine’s Graziadio Business School is preparing students for greatness in business administration, finance, and more across many sectors. The Graziadio marketing team was in need of a fresh set of photos that showcase real students in authentic classroom settings at one of the business school facilities, so we put together a day of shooting. Chateau Fleur de Roques is a beautiful 16th century chateau in the heart of French wine country in Saint-Émilion, France. We stayed there on a recent extended road trip through Germany and France, and were shown wonderful hospitality from their staff and inspiration from the surrounding countryside. With so many beautiful stone details, winding passageways, and comfy corners built for sitting and reading, we almost didn’t want to leave (but we eventually had to keep exploring wine country).

I'm working on a website for the Malibu Community Labor Exchange and if you've met me recently, you know I'll talk all day about the power of beautiful photography. The quality of the images on your website, social media account, or print piece can make the difference between a good marketing plan and a great one. So when I went to work on the MCLE website, one of the first things I did was shoot some stock images. Stay tuned for the new website reveal!

Location Photography at Calamigos Ranch | Malibu, CA

Not only do students at Pepperdine University get to live in the lap of luxury on a pristine Malibu beachfront campus. The school also provides the option to live in "campus" housing a short drive away on an idyllic ranch setting, complete with cows, goats, a ferris wheel, cabins, and more hiking trails than one person can conquer in a semester. The Housing staff wanted interior photos mostly, but these are some of my favorite detail "outtakes."

Black Forest Fire, Two Years Later

Generations ago, early settlers to Colorado discovered a forest of Ponderosa Pines on the foothills of Pikes Peak. When viewed from miles away, the thicket of trees appeared more black than green and became known as the Black Forest. This is where I grew up and my folks still live.

Two summers ago, my parents (and thousands of other residents of Black Forest, Colorado) nearly lost their home in a destructive fire that tore through the Black Forest. Following an evacuation and tense hours that turned into days of not knowing whose homes were spared, my parents finally returned home to an intact property. Hundreds of families were not so lucky.

As the months passed, Black Forest residents went to work clearing dead trees and rebuilding lost homes. A few people left. Most stayed. Winter came and summer returned. A year passed and then another.

Today, there are still sections of charred trees that have yet to be cleared. The eery trunks stand straight as though nothing has changed, but with a few exceptions: all the green pine needles are gone and every trunk is transformed to a deep charcoal black—giving new meaning to the name Black Forest.

I couldn't resist documenting what's left of a burned down homestead not far from my house, where it still sits buried beneath the snow.

Also my husband is a handsome devil, so naturally...

Human Rights Watch Fundraiser

I've spent a lot of time working and volunteering in the nonprofit sector. I know very well the value of volunteerism. So when the event organizer for a Human Rights Watch fundraiser got in touch, I was excited to give back.

Plus the venue at the Santa Monica Art Studio was pretty cool.

Point Dume Sprint Triathlon Event Photos

Point Dume is a landmark promontory in Malibu made famous by its roles in Planet of the Apes, innumerable fashion photo shoots, and most recently as Tony Stark's fictional mansion in the Iron Man film series. The point is also the namesake and site of the first ever Point Dume Sprint Triathlon, hosted by CrossFit Malibu.

After designing the logo and t-shirt for the race, I had the pleasure of playing the role of event photographer. I got to shoot these athletes as they swam, biked and ran around the most picturesque race course I've ever seen.

I'm pretty sure everyone's hoping this will become an annual thing.

CrossFit Malibu is a collection of fitness enthusiasts who mostly like to surf, run, sail, hike and rock climb but are occasionally known to lift heavy weights over their heads indoors--but only if a corrugated metal quonset hut qualifies as "indoors." I shot most of these images during a rousing Saturday morning workout.
