"Santa Monica Proper introduces a looser kind of luxury to Santa Monica. Here, along sun-drenched Wilshire Boulevard, within walking distance to the beach, each of the 271 rooms, suites and spaces successfully optimize the city’s abundant ocean breezes and natural light, while the interior design finds inspiration in the organic tones and textures of the local coastline. Santa Monica Proper beckons guests with the only rooftop pool deck on the Westside, a one-of-a-kind setting that includes a Balearic restaurant, bar, and cabanas, where guests are front-row for sunsets over the Pacific; meanwhile, the landmark restaurant, Onda, marks an iconic collaboration between James Beard award-winning chefs Jessica Koslow and Gabriela Cámara." It just doesn't get any better than this. Kevin reached out to me a few weeks ago because he was planning to propose to Holly, the love of his life, at Point Dume in Malibu, California, and he wanted some photos to document the moment. Best. Decision. Ever. At sunrise, just as the beautiful Pacific Ocean was being bathed in morning light, Kevin led Holly up to the clifftop and sat with her a few moments to reflect on their past and future together. And in that inspiring location, with only the waves and the seagulls (and me, hiding in the bushes) as witness, Kevin asked Holly if she would spend the rest of her life with him. And of course she said yes!
These two cuties are getting married!! Deby and Tom have been dating for a few years, but they delayed getting married until all the kids have graduated from high school and moved off to college. And now it's their turn to begin a new life and build something new together. I'm so excited to photography Deby and Tom's wedding next summer in Malibu. What an incredible, down to earth couple they are.
Back in September, I did a six-day mountaineering course on Mount Baker, a 10,781 foot active volcano in Washington's northern Cascades. This might very well have been the coolest thing I did all year. In one week's time, I learned how to strap crampons onto my double-walled mountaineering boots (and walk on a glacier in them), set up a tent on a glacier using snow anchors, tie an alpine butterfly knot, self-arrest with an ice axe, and pee in a Nalgene water bottle.
Thanks to David and Ari of Alpine Ascents, for taking good care of our crew, making sure we didn't die, and leading us across countless crevasses, to the summit of Mount Baker.
Who says families have to have little kids to be so much fun? This awesome family of six laughed and teased and splashed and played their way all over El Matador beach and every photo seemed better than the last.
Caren and Frank's ultra-local wedding was full of lifelong neighbors and friends who are like family. The Lodge at Malibou Lake, with it's tasteful mix of vintage and modern details, provided the perfect backdrop for Caren and Frank to get ready, walk down the aisle, and celebrate the beginning of their life together surrounded by friends and family.

Doug and Katie's Santa Barbara July wedding began in a park and ended up in an uproarious Italian-style party. This Alice Keck Park wedding was sunny and bright. After a post-ceremony portrait hour, the new couple and I did a photo-walk to Villa & Vine, where their friends and family awaited them to celebrate and wine down the evening together.

What an exciting summer Chrissy had! She got to visit Malibu to attend tennis camp and Pepperdine and while she was here, we snapped these beautiful senior portraits to commemorate her last summer before the end of high school.
We started out at Westlake Village Inn, exploring the beautiful gardens and pathways (perfect for when the sun is high in the sky) and finished up at my all-time fave, El Matador State Beach. Thanks Chrissy for coming all the way out to California just to shoot your Malibu senior portraits with me ;-)
(PS come to Pepperdine)
Pepperdine sweethearts getting married at a historic church in the Highland Park neighborhood of LA? It just doesn't get any sweeter than this.
Katrina and Sergio's wedding was so totally THEM. They met at Pepperdine, so their ceremony was officiated by a beloved professor, who delivered his message beautifully in both English and Spanish, to honor the bicultural union of the United States and Bolivia. Bolivian traditional appetizers, Southern BBQ buffet for dinner. Bilingual table decorations. Live music from their line up of ultra-talented friends. Group dancing lessons taught by the bride herself. Desserts baked by the mother of the bride. What a wonderful way to kick off the lifetime of a wonderful new couple!

Flowers: The Little Branch

Stauffer Chapel at Pepperdine University is the ideal backdrop for Jordan and Simon's beautiful wedding vows. With Jordan's impeccable sense of style and Simon's ability to keep everyone laughing, this wedding was a treat to document and participate in.
As beautiful as the blue stained glass window of the chapel is, those moments pale in comparison to the gorgeous post-ceremony couple photos we snapped on the cliffs overlooking Point Dume State Beach. Hands down one of my favorite wedding photography moments of my career.
