Kolby and Liz became friends, and then best friends, and then fell in love over their shared love of adventure, the ocean, and putting their playful hearts and souls into everything they do. It was only natural then that their wedding would be an extension of their earthy and easy-going style. From the paperless e-invitation to the friend's backyard venue to the barefoot wedding party to the sustainable reception (no disposables!), this ocean-loving couple celebrated their Earth Day wedding with intention and creativity.
I tend to shoot mostly people, so when I got the chance to snap photos of objects in a home, it was totally different and a little harder but also a little easier! Kristen O'Malley is a space designer. She does homes, sets (check out her Emmy in the gallery!) and more. Her taste is incredible and every piece has meaning as well as beauty and a great story. What a treat to photograph the work of a fellow creative!
I always wondered what it would be like to photograph photographers. Now I can say—it's amazing!! Grant and Sarah are both mega-talented photographers in their own right. Like me, they shoot weddings and events in Southern California. Not only was it a huge honor for them to ask me to document their engagement and wedding (no doubt they have a long list of other photographers they know), but it was SO much fun to spot backgrounds and imagine the shot together with them. This shoot felt like a collaboration of minds, rather than me running around bossing my subjects around. Thank you so much, Grant and Sarah, for being so lovely and creative and so gosh darn cute together. STOKED to shoot your wedding (spoiler alert: beach elopement) this summer!
What a delightful afternoon: perfect springtime light, tipping shades of gold over the crests and hillsides of Malibu's coastline, plus a family of three-almost-four in a sweet season of expectation and excitement. The Mancuso family—Brad, Liz (8 months along with new baby), and soon-to-be-big-brother Justus—and I spent an hour exploring one of my favorite hillsides up Corral Canyon in Malibu. With dizzying ocean views, soft grasses most of the year, and the glowing depths of the canyon behind us, everywhere we turned was a frame-worthy portrait backdrop. Add to that little Justus stealing the camera show, and a little magic was bound to happen.
Yoga is beautiful. Nature is beautiful. Yoga in nature, well, it's pretty mind-blowing. Beth and I hiked out to these lovely little meadows in Zuma Canyon in Malibu in April to snap these pretty shots. If you're in the LA area and you love a good, safe, aligned, and also challenging yoga flow, check out Beth Prandini and hit up one of her classes.
Eric & Ljiljana threw the most amazing party at Eden Gardens in Moorpark, CA, surrounded by family and friends from around the world!
Venue: Eden Gardens, Moorpark, CA Getting ready: Westlake Village Inn Post-ceremony portraits: El Matador State Beach, Malibu, CA This lovely out of town couple wanted a mix of canyon and ocean for their engagement photo session, so we started out at Zuma Canyon Trailhead and then popped over to Point Dume Cove for a both/and that's for the books.
Patrick and Valerie eloped on the beach in Los Angeles. Well... sort of. They actually eloped kind of accidentally in one of the most beautiful and posh hotels on the beach in Santa Monica. Here's the story:
Patrick and Valerie stayed the night at the Casa del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica, CA. They fully intended to just walk out onto the sand and say their vows, snap a few photos with me, and be done with it. But after getting dressed up, the hotel security guard just let them (and me, and the officiant) into the gazillion-dollar ballroom. Turns out a wedding dress is basically a carte blanche. Fifteen minutes later, these two were hitched! |
