Another day, another golden sunset, another beautiful beach family photo in Malibu, California. The Berggren family drove down from the bay area for a long weekend visit to chase away the Norcal mid-November blahs... and it worked! They were blessed with warm breezes and sunny afternoons and a sweet sunset session at the beach, to create some memories of this family adventure.
Being a Malibu family photographer means I get to hang out with happy (and treat-bribed) kids and their superstar parents in beautiful locations and I get to call it work. WHAT. Lucky me. Also I love these kids. I love watching them grow and I love being their special friend that takes pictures and I love seeing them make the same faces year after year, only in bigger and taller and more capable ways. Here's another round with the M family, as always a breath of fresh, joyful air (complements mostly of Mila, who could power a mid-sized city with her exuberance).
What a dream to shoot Raquel and Danny's engagement session at Point Dume and get the beach all to ourselves (helped to shoot on a dreary weekday in October)! These two have such a mellow and sweet connection and I'm so excited to document their beautiful wedding day in the new year (this pandemic can't keep us down!) These Agoura Hills headshots were for yoga and meditation instructor Brian Hyman. Regardless of the industry, it's always a good idea to update headshots every two to three years. You can find Brian's meditations on Insight Timer. Thanks for hanging out Brian!
This sweet family's Malibu beach portraits came at just the right time. Brayden was born the first week of COVID, in isolation, and Kalei missed out on maternity photos and newborn photos. So these photos of 6-month-old Brayden are particularly special because they are his first photo shoot! And that face... what a sweet little nugget!
I loved spending a lovely golden hour with these three at El Matador, capturing a few special moments as a family. And this session was particularly special because Kalei and David are also engaged to be married next year! They hadn't shot engagement photos yet, so this session doubled as engagement pics (with the cutest little plus one ever). Congratulations Kalei and David! You have so much to be grateful for and excited about, and I'm glad that you can now treasure these sweet moments forever. Here's an awesome idea: shoot photos the day before (or the day after) your wedding, with no time pressure and the option to move the shoot to a truly epic natural location. That's what Josh and Andy did and the results are amazing! These two guys planned their backyard wedding at home on a Sunday and their portraits with me in Malibu the day before. It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know them and begin their celebration a day early. These guys leveled up the style factor of their Point Dume wedding photos by renting a vintage car to incorporate in the shots.
Natalie's Malibu senior pictures occurred during a strange season in life. Remember COVID? (Oh yeah... it's still happening...) Her senior year got cut short. Her freshman year went online. So call these senior pictures, grad pictures, freshman pictures, COVID pictures. Whatever, it all happened in Malibu and Natalie is off the charts.
These wedding pictures at El Matador Beach are particularly special because Tamara and Jon travelled in from out of town just to shoot with me! They had their wedding on another date and wanted to shoot these wedding portraits at the beach in Malibu in an unhurried, private way, so they could get some beautiful variety for their wedding album and to frame for their walls. (Click "Read More" to view the rest of the gallery!)
These Pepperdine senior photos are knocking my socks off! Pepperdine is beautiful, Malibu is beautiful, and the hiking trail on the ridgeline above campus, with its view of both campus and the sweeping coastline of Malibu is off the charts. Congratulations to Sam, as she steps out into the world after college! I'm so glad you took the moment to capture these graduation photos in Malibu, before leaving town, so you could always remember the place where you grew and changed during college.
Pepperdine's Caruso School of Law is a top-ranked institution located in a world-famous city. Together with the law school's marketing team, I shot many of the photos that adorn this issue of The Brief, Pepperdine Law's periodical. In order to evoke an elegant balance of slick professionalism and approachable humanity, we set up several shoots both on campus and around Malibu over the course of several days. The intention of the project was to capture the student experience inside and outside the classroom, as well as the top-level scholarship and professional chops that make this institution so special.
