New Website for Yoga Studio | Malibu Beach Yoga

This website project was near and dear to my heart because I have personally experienced so much joy as a result of Malibu Beach Yoga. I'll never forget the first time I took Kat's morning power class that left me feeling both strong and spent... the first Ashtanga class I bumbled through that left me feeling confused but accomplished... falling asleep in savasana too many times to count. When I did my yoga teacher training in 2015, Malibu Beach was the first real (i.e. non-Pepperdine) studio that put me on the schedule.

So when the studio manager approached me about a simple but beautiful website, it felt like I was building something for a family member. It's truly an honor to create something great for a person (or business) I love and know very well.

Like most of the websites I build, the project started with a photo shoot. Like I always say, great websites are built with great photography. Check out the photos from the shoot here.

As you can see, the site looks as great on mobile as it does on a laptop. That's important because over 40% of browsing now occurs on devices such as smartphones or tablets. The site is responsive, which means it senses the size of the viewing window and adjusts the content (photos & text) accordingly.

As you click through the slideshow below, you'll notice that the site is heavily image-based, with full-width banner images on each page. All the photos were taken at the same time/location, so the lighting and style create a cohesive thread throughout the site. I wanted the site to have some style, with a subtle color scheme and design elements that reflect Malibu's southern California style. The off-center text, bold page headings, and gold buttons on a white page background bring in a clean, magazine page layout feel.

My personal website philosophy is that YOU should be able to make updates to your site. Too often, a business will shell out thousands of dollars for a site that they can't. even. update. To me, that is unacceptable. I'll make the site beautiful, organize the information in a way that makes sense, and create a cohesive representation of your business. Then I hand over the keys and teach you to make basic edits to the existing content, such as changing/adding text, changing/adding photos, and even creating new pages. Of course I'm always available to jump in and help with updates if you get stuck, but I want you to feel empowered and excited to take control of your online presence.

If your website is a dog, think of me as the obedience trainer. I'll create the masterpiece, but you get to take it from there. Do you like how that sounds? Pride Water Polo Promo Video & Photography | Thousand Oaks, CA

Pride Water Polo is a local youth water polo club that prepares its athletes to be leaders in and out of the pool. They hired me to shoot and edit a promotional video that features interviews with coaches, parents & athletes, about what makes Pride stand out.

In addition to shooting footage, collecting interviews, and cutting the whole project together, I also shot a bunch of stills of the athletes and coaches in action (couldn't resist, I'm a photographer too!) These images will be valuable assets in Pride's social media, web & print marketing efforts. Catch up with Pride Water Polo Club on their website or facebook page.

Malibu Beach Yoga Studio | Lifestyle and Promotional Photography

Most of you are aware I'm a yoga instructor, so when I get the chance to shoot some yoga photography, it always feels as natural as breathing. I'll never get tired of capturing angles and moments every yogi experiences at some point in a practice that is both deeply individual and profoundly communal at the same time.

This shoot took place on a bright weekend afternoon at my favorite studio, Malibu Beach Yoga, where I also teach on Saturday mornings at 9:15!

BIRTHFIT Website Redesign | www.birthfit.com | Venice, CA

BIRTHFIT is a resource & support community for pregnant and postpartum women around the world. They already had a WordPress site but it needed some help. The site was several years old and badly needed a navigation redesign, up-to-date content, and links to outside sites for services, sign up forms, and affiliate marketing.

BIRTHFIT already had tons of blog posts from over the years, so they wanted to stick with WordPress just make updates to the structure, home page, and design to make the site more appealing to the BIRTHFIT audience.

The movement is growing crazy fast (just check out their instagram & facebook accounts) and the site needed an upgrade to support the growth so far and beyond.

The site redesign now boasts a sliding home page banner with click-throughs to popular pages. There is now a link to the online store, an affiliate sign up process and ways to connect with each affiliate around the country. The resources offered by BIRTHFIT and their affiliates are now organized under Services and Education. Webinars, eBooks, and a multitude of great blog posts are available for free or for purchase through the site and outside platforms.

Services at the Venice, CA, headquarters can now be scheduled through buttons in the site and a sidebar on each page showcases most popular posts as well as featured sponsors (who can purchase ad space on a monthly basis to bring in some ongoing income for the company).

I love the way this redesign worked out and I'm excited for my ongoing relationship with this team of game changers! Click through the slides below to see images of the pages, or visit www.birthfit.com to see the site in action.

Team Building & a Night Hike at Chumash Ridge, Malibu, CA | 12-06-15

It's hard to explain what happened last Sunday to someone who wasn't there. To an outside observer, we were a bunch of college kids wearing backpacks, doing burpees and various odd-looking challenges and procedures in a gravel parking lot.
To the informed eye, this was Trek Iceland Selection.
A weighted backpack (with penalties for being too light). Burpees for time. Bag pulls for time. A hunk of lumber posing as an "injured hiker." Solving rope knots & riddles together in the dark, only to head up the mountain into the unknown.
19 college students showed up and gave it their best for their team and for the selection process. Absolutely any of them would have been excellent additions to the expedition team, but we could only accept 13 members this year.
Congratulations to our final team and I can't wait to explore the landscape of Iceland and of our inner lives together in July!

I went for a hike with my friend Stacy and her 4-year-old, Graham. We found a beautiful cave with tons of graffiti, a bunch of sandstone formations, some beautiful yoga poses, a zen garden, and a horny toad. At the end of it all, we found out that Graham has a 2 hour time limit on adventure yoga.

Note: Obviously I didn't take the pictures that I'm in. But all the rest are my work.

I love nature hikes, finding wild animals, and taking pictures of intentional and unintentional moments. If you like that too, let's do a photo shoot! More family photography here. More fitness photography here.

She's totally obsessed with all things fitness related, along with being an athlete/fitness model, who loves passing along that passion to her clients. As a Tier 3+ personal trainer at Equinox Woodland Hills, Cat lives and breathes helping her clients reach their goals and achieve their physical best. Now Cat has a goal.
