I'm the youngest in a family of six, so hanging out with the Jackson family always hits a special little heartstring. It's fun for me to imagine my own family being at this stage (because I definitely don't remember it) and also so see another family of six who is a stand for big love, big laughter, big hugs and cuddles, and always says yes to adventure.... like walking down 900+ stairs to the beach, then all the way back up to the clifftop like champs.
I can't get enough of this mini holiday session with the Begert family! Taylor and Lauren are dear friends who embody joy and abundant love to everyone around them. It's only fitting, then, that their firstborn son, Isaiah, also brings joy and a smile to anyone's face who meets him.
We stopped by Malibu Bluffs Park on a Friday morning to snap some moments in the midst of the Begert family's life together. The cool thing about a mini session is that it's short, which makes it ideal for kiddos with short attention spans. We only shoot for 30 minutes, which takes the pressure off the parents to keep their kid happy and entertained for a long time. Interested in a mini session? Shoot me an email! I've been loving these at-home shoots lately, even and especially when there's a newborn in the mix. There's nothing like taking a few minutes to freeze time, especially when it feels like it all moves way too fast.
The holidays, a new baby brother, a cool grassy backyard, a sweet scooter.... all good reasons to celebrate with a family mini session at home! Whitney (mama) is a dear friend of mine who is really good at remembering to schedule photo shoots at regular intervals, to document the ever-changing, picture-perfectly imperfect moments that make up life with little ones. (She's also really good at remembering to print those photos too... I know, she needs to teach us all.) This at-home session was sweet and unexpected and snuggly, just like I imagine life with two-and-a-half-year-old and newborn boys is.
Just in time to kick off family portrait season, here's Christen and her two sons. Together we ran all over every inch of El Matador Beach at low tide, and snapped photos of this wild bunch.
Whitney and Christopher Potter are two beautiful souls who have been incredible parents to Lincoln for the past 2 years. In just a few short weeks, this incredible family of three is about to become a family of four and they wanted to visit little Lincoln's favorite place on the planet, the "oh-sheh," to document this moment in time.
I'm starting to like this family-photos-at-home thing and I really hope it's going to become a trend. Read the rest of this post to see the sweetness of the Collins' family's 6am home session, featuring snuggles, scratch-made pancakes, a few tears, Curious George, and some back porch truck driving.
Not only is Mikhai the most adorable little 14-month-old, but I got to have my camera out, snapping away, while he experienced his first visit to the beach ever. I got to capture the discovery of sand (which he loved) and the first time he noticed (and then couldn't stop staring at) the endless expanse of water and the alarming sound of the crashing waves. I hear this from parents a lot, that we experience the world again through the eyes of our children. Their process of discovery unlocks memories of our own firsthand plunges into the unknown, and reminds us of the brevity and beauty of life. This was a special shoot, because a little over a year ago, I was snapping portraits of my dear friend Arin with a 9-month belly, waiting for Mikhai to arrive... and here he is a year later! I have loved watching Arin adore him and embrace the role of motherhood with strength and beauty. She wanted this shoot to be all about Mikhai, but I snuck the chance to snap a few frames with her in them, and those are by far my favorites! Love these? Let's set up a shoot! I've known Jen & Cyrus for years. From working together at lululemon Calabasas with Jen, to photographing their incredible sunrise wedding, and now to watching them bring a daughter into the world, I have loved watching their lives unfold in beautiful chapters. These photos capture a moment in time at their new home, with Violet Vaughan at twelve days old. It was a joy to capture every detail, from her full head of hair and perfect little fingers and toes to the beautiful color and light of the new baby room. Not only is Jen an incredible new (yet totally relaxed and confident) mom, she is also a gifted writer. Over the course of the past several months, she blogged updates about her pregnancy and the joys and surprises that came with it. Jen's blog is a great source of wisdom as Jen shares her pursuit of a smaller, slower life in the midst of this sometimes chaotic world. Like these? Shoot me an email (cecily.breeding@gmail.com) and let's set up a portrait session.
