Santa Barbara Wedding Photographer | Katie and Doug at Alice Keck Gardens Wedding Photography7/21/2019
Doug and Katie's Santa Barbara July wedding began in a park and ended up in an uproarious Italian-style party. This Alice Keck Park wedding was sunny and bright. After a post-ceremony portrait hour, the new couple and I did a photo-walk to Villa & Vine, where their friends and family awaited them to celebrate and wine down the evening together.

Katrina and Sergio's wedding was so totally THEM. They met at Pepperdine, so their ceremony was officiated by a beloved professor, who delivered his message beautifully in both English and Spanish, to honor the bicultural union of the United States and Bolivia. Bolivian traditional appetizers, Southern BBQ buffet for dinner. Bilingual table decorations. Live music from their line up of ultra-talented friends. Group dancing lessons taught by the bride herself. Desserts baked by the mother of the bride. What a wonderful way to kick off the lifetime of a wonderful new couple! With Jordan's impeccable sense of style and Simon's ability to keep everyone laughing, this wedding was a treat to document and participate in.
As beautiful as the blue stained glass window of the chapel is, those moments pale in comparison to the gorgeous post-ceremony couple photos we snapped on the cliffs overlooking Point Dume State Beach. Hands down one of my favorite wedding photography moments of my career. So basically they should get a medal (but instead they got rings and an unforgettable party in the mountains, which is just as good).
Thank you Caitlin and Josh for being so dang fun AND willing to traipse through the wild orchard underbrush for your photos (it helped that you were wearing cowboy boots). Thank you also for introducing me to my new favorite venue, The Homestead at Oak Glen. This venue was the perfect choice for your celebration because they did everything (right down to the flowers and the photo booth) for you but they are also so creative and helpful in every way. Alicia and Reilly got married at the church where Alicia grew up and where her father is a minister AND he officiated their wedding ceremony. And to add another level to the beautiful family symbolism, Alicia wore her mother’s wedding dress, which was customized and re-imagined by her mother-in-law. Crying yet? Oh, also she got ready at home, with her dog, and crossed the street to get married. The day couldn't have been more perfect, and with such incredible families, this marriage is destined for greatness.
After the ceremony in the church, the guests drove over the hill to Malibu where the reception was held on campus at Pepperdine University, where Alicia is an alum. With so many church and Pepperdine people in attendance, the whole day felt like a big family reunion (which is exactly how weddings should feel)! To see the photos, it totally doesn't look like June (look at that moody sky!) but that's just summer in Malibu: unpredictable. But with unpredictable comes reward and I couldn't be happier with Brian and Morgan's sweet beach first look and couple portraits, set to the backdrop of a moody sky and blue crashing waves.
Brian and Morgan honored their Jewish heritage with the signing of a beautiful ketubah before the ceremony, as well as the crowd-pleaser glass-stomp (mazal tov!) and of course the hora chair dance that always makes me cringe because I'm afraid someone is going to take a tumble (but not to worry... everyone survived). Congratulations to Brian and Morgan! It's so evident in your calm and peaceful chemistry that your companionship runs deep and true and I'm so happy for you to begin the rest of your life together! That's because we did the shoot at sunrise! That's right, this awesome couple got ready and met me at the beach at 6:45 am for sunrise (which turned out to be perfectly cloudy and all pastels all morning long) and it was totally worth it to have the WHOOLLE beach to ourselves! If you've been to El Matador, you know that it can be challenging to have a clean background due to other people enjoying the beach (who can blame them? It's stunning.) But a sunrise session at El Matador meant we were alone with the beautiful light, freshly smoothed sand, and expanse of rocks to climb all over. It was a dream come true!
Though based inland, Ilse and Louis wanted to snap elopement photos at El Matador because they getaway to the beach any chance they have (and I can totally see why!). I'm so thrilled they found me online (yay Google!) and we got to spend these special moments together making some truly frame-worthy images to commemorate the beginning of their life together. Stacy and Mark's March wedding at the legendary Wayfarer's Chapel in Palos Verdes, California, was nothing short of breathtaking. Full of light and glass, the space feels like a heavenly forest, and is the perfect space to say vows that will last a lifetime.
