Malibu Wedding Photography | Allison and Dan's Triunfo Creek Vineyard Wedding

7/8/2017

Allison and Dan's wedding was an East Coast meets West Coast affair. Having lived in New York for the last several years, their love story and their crowd of friends hails from back east. Allison's roots and their future, however, is out west (they're moving to the LA area soon), so they decided to say their vows in a beautiful Catholic church and then follow it up with a beautiful outdoor reception in true So Cal wedding style—in a vineyard.

Malibu Beach Wedding Photography | Lauren & Bjorn's Wedding at Gladstones

4/25/2016

Any couple from Minnesota who plans a wedding on the beach in Southern California is risking a lot. What will the weather be like? Will our friends and family really all buy plane tickets to fly across the country for this? How will we plan the logistics? Where can we find an officiant? A florist? A photographer? But Lauren and Bjorn didn't let the fear of the unknown stop them. They decided to go for it. This incredible couple wanted to say their vows and celebrate their commitment to one another in a location where they had vacationed and made lots of memories—Malibu, California.

And you know what happened?

It was perfect.

The weather was beautiful. The friends and family DID fly across the country to celebrate. They figured out all the details (and Gladstones helped!) And I'm beyond grateful for the wise and all-knowing Google for leading Lauren to find me online.

Lauren and Bjorn's wedding was special due in large part to their ability to let go of the details and just immerse themselves in the moments of the day. As the photographer, I was able to witness countless moments of friendship, affection & genuine love between Lauren, Bjorn, their boys & their families.

And after spending an evening partying with a bunch of MinnesOOOOtans, I'm convinced that whole state is full of genuine smiles and warm hearts.

Thanks Lauren & Bjorn for including me in your sun-kissed celebration!

Venue & Food: Gladstones Restaurant, Malibu

Erica & Nick | Padua Hills Theatre, Claremont, CA Wedding Photography

4/10/2016

Where do I even start? Like the two of them, Erica & Nick's gorgeous Claremont, CA, wedding on Friday, April Fools' Day, was anything but ordinary. Erica & Nick met in acting class and have been together more than 10 years. Their deep connection with one another is palpable whenever they are in the same room.

They wanted their wedding to be an expression of who they are as a couple: unconventional, authentic, and FUN. As a actor, model & hard core yoga instructor (former lululemon athletica ambassador too!), Erica loves to break the rules. Wedding gown? Nah.... Short white dress with pockets. Veil?... Why? Flowers? Nah... DIY wire "bouquet" creations & pins instead of boutonnieres. Party favors? .... clown noses!! You get the picture.

Most couples follow tradition and spend the wedding day hiding from one another until their first look. Not Erica and Nick! They arrived to the venue together and spent the hours before the ceremony talking and sharing laughs before the guests arrived.

Thank you, Erica & Nick, for inviting me to document these images, and be part of your incredible wedding day!

Farm & Flame + Plain Clothing Launch Party | Fashion & Food Photography, Malibu, CA

2/1/2016

This is Farm & Flame ...................................................... and this is Plain.

One is a fresh, local, SoCal caterer and the other is an equally fresh, equally local, line of sweat pants. Together, Farm & Flame and Plain made a magical launch party happen last weekend in Malibu. With the usual mix of neighbors, surfers, families and a couple A-listers-next-door, we toasted the launch of two creative, lady-boss-led companies right here in our backyard.

My faves? The classic "No Strings Attached" sweatpant in gray, the Malibu Mary bloodys, the Brussels & Belly Skewers (you'll know them when you see them), the front yard setting, the brand new Farm & Flame food truck, and all the pretty afternoon light that showed up to make it all glow just so.

I can't think of a better combination of companies to represent what we value most about our Malibu lifestyle than the food we love and the clothes we live in. Cheers to you both and thanks for letting me capture it!

Branding & Website Design for Pepperdine's Drone Entrepreneurship Conference

12/24/2015

The Pepperdine School of Law and the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship & the Law wanted to host an event that brought together the tech community. The subject is drones, particularly entrepreneurship in the drone sector. The target audience is young, tech savvy, and slightly geeky. The Palmer Center wanted a branding scheme that appealed to the target audience and a website platform that allowed for online registration and to showcase the content of the event.

Once all that was complete, they needed t-shirts, event print materials, and a variety of collateral to support the event experience. I used a clean black & white color scheme with hits of Pepperdine's orange & blue. Take a look!

Event Branding & Collateral:

Like this? A branding scheme that shows up in social media posts, print materials, and digital broadcast forums (like a website) is called an integrated marketing strategy. These projects are a BLAST for me because I get to do it all and every piece matches.

Team Building & a Night Hike at Chumash Ridge, Malibu, CA | 12-06-15

12/13/2015

It's hard to explain what happened last Sunday to someone who wasn't there. To an outside observer, we were a bunch of college kids wearing backpacks, doing burpees and various odd-looking challenges and procedures in a gravel parking lot.
To the informed eye, this was Trek Iceland Selection.
A weighted backpack (with penalties for being too light). Burpees for time. Bag pulls for time. A hunk of lumber posing as an "injured hiker." Solving rope knots & riddles together in the dark, only to head up the mountain into the unknown.
19 college students showed up and gave it their best for their team and for the selection process. Absolutely any of them would have been excellent additions to the expedition team, but we could only accept 13 members this year.
Congratulations to our final team and I can't wait to explore the landscape of Iceland and of our inner lives together in July!

lululemon athletica Malibu Store Beach Campout at Thornhill Broome, Malibu, CA

11/10/2015

Malibu is no ordinary beach town, and lululemon athletica is no ordinary yoga apparel retailer. Just 2 weeks out from opening weekend, the lululemon Malibu store team hosted a community campout to do what we do best: play in and around the ocean. We pitched tents on the sand at Thornhill Broome, embraced the challenge of a mystery sunset hike, spent the evening laughing and swapping stories around the campfire, and closed off the event with some morning beach yoga.

Can't wait for the next event!

Send lululemon athletica Malibu some love on facebook to stay updated on the store opening + events.

Hey look! @lululemon's Twitter account liked that picture too!
