Whitney and Christopher Potter are two beautiful souls who have been incredible parents to Lincoln for the past 2 years. In just a few short weeks, this incredible family of three is about to become a family of four and they wanted to visit little Lincoln's favorite place on the planet, the "oh-sheh," to document this moment in time.
BIRTHFIT is a worldwide community of educators who want to see a world where childbirth is empowered and elevated. They held their annual summit in Venice, CA, and it was complete with some functional training, talks, workshops, yoga, and a closing circle. These are images that BIRTHFIT HQ (whose website I built!) and the various BIRTHFIT regional directors (many of whose websites I also built!) will use for social media and to spruce up their websites with quality images.
Check out some of my fave snaps.
Two days. I took these photos two days before Zac and Christy welcomed Jude earth-side. I barely had time to edits these photos before Jude was here!
Not only is Mikhai the most adorable little 14-month-old, but I got to have my camera out, snapping away, while he experienced his first visit to the beach ever. I got to capture the discovery of sand (which he loved) and the first time he noticed (and then couldn't stop staring at) the endless expanse of water and the alarming sound of the crashing waves. I hear this from parents a lot, that we experience the world again through the eyes of our children. Their process of discovery unlocks memories of our own firsthand plunges into the unknown, and reminds us of the brevity and beauty of life. This was a special shoot, because a little over a year ago, I was snapping portraits of my dear friend Arin with a 9-month belly, waiting for Mikhai to arrive... and here he is a year later! I have loved watching Arin adore him and embrace the role of motherhood with strength and beauty. She wanted this shoot to be all about Mikhai, but I snuck the chance to snap a few frames with her in them, and those are by far my favorites! Love these? Let's set up a shoot! I've known Jen & Cyrus for years. From working together at lululemon Calabasas with Jen, to photographing their incredible sunrise wedding, and now to watching them bring a daughter into the world, I have loved watching their lives unfold in beautiful chapters. These photos capture a moment in time at their new home, with Violet Vaughan at twelve days old. It was a joy to capture every detail, from her full head of hair and perfect little fingers and toes to the beautiful color and light of the new baby room. Not only is Jen an incredible new (yet totally relaxed and confident) mom, she is also a gifted writer. Over the course of the past several months, she blogged updates about her pregnancy and the joys and surprises that came with it. Jen's blog is a great source of wisdom as Jen shares her pursuit of a smaller, slower life in the midst of this sometimes chaotic world. Like these? Shoot me an email (cecily.breeding@gmail.com) and let's set up a portrait session.
They say home is where the heart is, and in this case, I'd say they were right. I happen to be related to the subjects of this Wednesday-morning-at-home shoot (Mama Rachel is my big sister!), so they were willing to let me show up during breakfast time and just capture what I saw. And boy, I saw a lot.... I saw smiles and laughter and see-food and morning light and Dr. Seuss and chickens and lilacs and Midnight the cat and Macarius' bicycle and a whole lotta love passed from heart to heart and hand to hand. I left my family that morning with a full memory card and an even fuller heart.
I think what I love most about this shoot are the little bursts of reality sprinkled throughout—like that smear of God knows what on Macarius' chin from breakfast (my guess is egg yolk), or Juliana's little green undies peaking out above her skirt, or Lucius rocking the diaper, or Rachel's just-showered hair. I'm not a parent myself, but if I were, these are the details I would want frozen in time. These are the things I would store up in my heart. So please scroll down to enjoy a real morning at the Barnard home, in all it's raw perfection.
The site redesign now boasts a sliding home page banner with click-throughs to popular pages. There is now a link to the online store, an affiliate sign up process and ways to connect with each affiliate around the country. The resources offered by BIRTHFIT and their affiliates are now organized under Services and Education. Webinars, eBooks, and a multitude of great blog posts are available for free or for purchase through the site and outside platforms. Services at the Venice, CA, headquarters can now be scheduled through buttons in the site and a sidebar on each page showcases most popular posts as well as featured sponsors (who can purchase ad space on a monthly basis to bring in some ongoing income for the company). I love the way this redesign worked out and I'm excited for my ongoing relationship with this team of game changers! Click through the slides below to see images of the pages, or visit www.birthfit.com to see the site in action. Like this? I build lots of websites using a variety of site builders, from WordPress to SquareSpace, Wix to Weebly. Check out more on my websites page or shoot me an email and let's talk about what you're looking for!
