Nicholas and Sheena are doing it right: babymoon to Malibu before little Saylor arrives. The pair are from Chicago but visited Malibu for a few days to relax and enjoy one another's company (and some warmer weather) before their daughter arrives to rock their world. Though I met Nicholas and Sheena moments before I started snapping photos, they were game for a (pretty steep) hike up the cliffside to catch the golden light, then also flexible enough to pivot and hide from the (not cold but still blustery) winter winds.
Enjoy these sweet snaps from a session that was part maternity, part couple, and all perfection.
These two. Just wow. They're getting married this July and I. Can't. Wait. to take all the photos! Check out Rachel and Troy's engagement session at low tide at Broad Beach in Malibu, CA.
Wow wow wow, this is magic. With a little one turning two, a new baby on the way, and so much love to share, the Zachary family showed up on this windy hillside in Malibu with all the smiles, snuggles, and nose kisses.
This Corral Canyon location has it all: sweeping ocean views, golden hillside, canyon backdrop, and all pretty much hidden from roads (and people for that matter).
Little did we know, less than a week later after these photos were taken, new baby Zachary was with us earthside. Like I said.... magic.
Jenny and Parke are a pair of globe-trotting lovebirds who seem to have friends and loved ones all over the world. Rather than just one wedding day, they've opted for a whole season of wedding celebrations and gatherings in California, Colorado, Connecticut, and England! This engagement party at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California, was their kick off celebration, complete with wine tasting, paddle boats, and ping pong on the lawn.
Jenny and Parke requested a quick engagement portrait session in the midst of the party, and Calamigos Ranch is the perfect location for that.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
I. Love. At home. Photo shoots.
And here's why:
1. It's part portrait sitting and part photojournalism. As you can see, some of these photos are posed and Christmas-card or frame-worthy. Cool. Totally what most people want for family photos. BUT, lots of these photos are the "in-between" kinds of moments. The snacks on the kitchen floor. The diaper changing and "Let me show you my room!" kinds of scenes that only happen when kiddos are comfortable in their own space. You don't get stuff like this at a park or at the beach. This is magic, and it only happens at home.
2. It's a time capsule. Not only will you have photos of your little looking the way they do today, but you'll have a snapshot of your whole space. Years down the road, these frames will trigger a whole host of memories, from "Oh, I remember that painting!" to "Look how small the trees are," to "Whoa that was before the remodel!" These photos aren't in a sterile studio or impersonal park; they're in your home.
3. Everyone is way more comfortable. You. Your kids. Me. Your pets. No one is going to get a parking ticket. No one has to hike to the "shoot location." No one is worried about random strangers in the background. It's just all you, your family, and your love, in your space. So kick your feet up onto the couch. Take a break to nurse your child. Change your outfit if you're feeling it—because you can!
Spent a sun-drenched afternoon chasing sun and shade and everything in between with the classy and beachy Danielle and Jacob. With such an easy breezy connection these two have and the fact they'll be saying their wedding vows in Danielle's childhood backyard at her mother's Manhattan Beach estate, their September wedding can't come soon enough!
So you've got this amazing team. Beautiful location. World class wine, food, hospitality, view, décor, the list goes on. Now you just need some great images to communicate that reality. New head shots, stock images for the website, print and digital promo, the works. Photos that will represent your identity well.
That's what Malibu Beach Inn needed when they reached out to me for some not-your-average head shots of their team. Read more to meet the Malibu Beach Inn team, shining bright in their natural habitat.

A mini sesh as sweet as Guine and Urundi's mini me, Gabrielle. We may have gotten lucky with a knockout sunset, but even if we hadn't, I'm sure Gabrielle's giggles would have lit up the sky.
